Thank you San Bernardino for your support!
Special run-off election February 7, 2012.
Vote and mail your ballot early.
Hi I'm Gigi Hanna and I'd like to be your next City Clerk.
Please view the San Bernardino Sun endorsement here to see why I am the best choice. The Black Voice News has also endorsed my candidacy. I've declined endorsement from special interest groups or elected officials in San Bernardino because I feel it belies true neutrality. If you would like to know who is supporting me, please see my list of supporters, which grows daily and will be updated regularly.
San Bernardino resident since 1994 and a public information expert with 25 years of experience, I am uniquely qualified to serve. As someone who has maintained professional neutrality throughout my career, I distinguish myself from my opponent in several areas, notably appropriate training and education related to the position, passion for open government, knowledge of public records and a neutral position on the elected officials representing San Bernardino.
This office is too important to trust to anyone less than an unbiased, skilled and tested leader.
Here's my background:
• As an award winning journalist, I covered city councils from Eureka to Encinitas, remaining neutral while promoting Democracy and government transparency.
• As senior public affairs officer for Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, I was on the legislative strategy team, conducted media-crisis training for elected officials, managed several publications including the editing of the agency's ethics manual, and was contract administrator for the City Makeover program, which provided funding for 23 outdoor conservation projects throughout Southern California.
• As the Associate Director of the Water Resources Institute at CSUSB, I managed the communications and outreach efforts, supervised interns, coordinated meetings with the two advisory boards and planned quarterly and annual speaker's series, conferences and fund-raising events.
• As communications and administrative coordinator for the statewide Alluvial Fan Task Force, I worked with elected officials, state officials, environmentalists, developers, academics and floodplain managers to create design guidelines and a model ordinance for communities seeking to protect life and property in the event of flooding. To ensure the highest level of public participation and government transparency, the documents created and used during the entire three-year effort were published here.
• As aspiring clerk, I took City Clerk basic and ethics training from the City Clerks Association of California. Additionally, my graduate work concentrated on open meeting and public records law, a key responsibility of this position.
I value volunteer service and have spent a lifetime on those projects that mean most to me, including Special Olympics, literacy training, and mentoring young career women. My husband, Tony, and I co-managed the Downtown Harvest Market in San Bernardino. Currently, I am a member of Rotary and volunteer for Healthy San Bernardino Coalition.
Please watch my candidate profile to learn more about me.
I've met many of you already as I'm walking precincts and I look forward to meeting many more in the coming weeks. I look forward to serving the residents of San Bernardino as your next City Clerk. Thank you for your consideration.
Please join our celebration at the Rustic Inn Tuesday, February 7th at 8 pm.
